Musician of The Month – Brian O. Kepher

Musician of The Month – Brian O. Kepher

Born in 1994 December 24th I am from the Luo community, but Kenya is my tribe. I am blessed to have both parents. My Dad’s name is Kepher and my Mum’s name is Pamela. I have nine siblings, 3 brothers and 5sisters. I study at Our Lady of Fatuma Secondary School in Nairobi and I am proud to play music.

I started playing music at Ghetto Classics in Korogocho. I have no apologies for living in the slums, since I know I am the one to change it through music. I was also motivated by my mother who was always calling me to go and see the group wherever they played, before I joined them in January 2011.

Classical music has so far helped me not only socially but also academically since I keep on being motivated. I am a scout and I am a member of the scout band. This has really played a big role in my music.

I am honoured to join the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya this year and I am privileged to play the percussion. At Ghetto Classics I play tenor saxophone. I am very happy with the group. I was motivated by their performance last year and I said to myself that I must come and add value to them, so here I am playing the percussion.
