OSI starts at Cheleta Primary School

On 17th January the Orchestra for Schools Initiative started at Cheleta Primary School in Runda. What makes it different is that it is a project sponsored by the Runda Association and the Art of Music provides the technical expertise.

We look forward to seeing how this goes so that we can replicate it across the country.

The Orchestra for Schools Initiative is the Ghetto Classics outreach programme.

As part of the Ghetto Classics expansion in 2016, The Art of Music partnered with The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall to bring their much loved and exciting programme Link-Up to Kenya. The curriculum introduces basic music principles, introduces the concept of the orchestra and how music can move. It has been a wonderful year for the young musicians and teachers alike. The programme is currently in 14 schools around Kenya – 9 in Nairobi, 1 in Kiambu and 4 in Mombasa. At the end of the musical year the students will then perform with the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya a once in a lifetime experience for them as they see and hear about the Orchestra and instruments they’ve learned throughout the year.
