2019 has started off great for Ghetto Classics and the Safaricom Youth Orchestra. They were chosen as the opening act for the 2019 Safaricom International Jazz Festival, headlined by the grammy award winner Marcus Miller.
The Orchestra’s combined to open the show with the National Anthem and then each performed a few pieces that got the crowds going. The Safaricom Jazz is a great afternoon featuring many talented artists. Many of whom visited Ghetto Classics in the week running up to the Festival performing for the kids and also giving master classes to their young fans.
Proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the Ghetto classics music programme, which has been the Safaricom Jazz beneficiary since 2014 and has so far received an estimated KES 60 million, funds that have benefitted over 1,400 children from Nairobi and Mombasa. Proceeds from the 2018/2019 Edition will see the Ghetto Classics Schools programme extend to Kisumu.
