ABOUT US
The Art of Music Foundation is an organisation that uses art music to better the lives of children in Kenya by providing them with hope, skills and opportunities. Our mission is to provide information, encourage excellence and increase the opportunities for those pursuing careers in art music. The objectives of the foundation are to provide a strong and impactful governance structure, as well as source and secure funding that supports the successful implementation to ensure the growth and longevity of the projects run by the Foundation
The projects include :
- A National Youth Orchestra
- a National Youth Orchestra which brings together gifted musical youth aged between below the age of 25 from around the country to form the first National Orchestra.
- Community Music Programs
around the country that focus on using art music to better the lives of disadvantaged youth.
- An Education Learning & Resource Centre
that:
- Provides an information centre/library for musicians around the country
- Runs postgraduate programs for musicians
- Builds the capacity of music teachers in the region
- Provides grants for musical study for those in need
- Encourages and supports local art music composition
- A Media centre that
- Supports the publication of Classics magazine
- Establishes a Radio Station that focuses on art music
TRUSTEES OF THE FOUNDATION
board of non-executive trustees, under the chairmanship of Dr Julius Kipng'etich. Drawn from the fields of music, business, law and the marketing at a high level, the Board brings valuable expertise and experience to the Foundation. The trustees are responsible for the policy and overall direction of the organization, ensuring financial stability, acting as advocates and providing support and guidance for the director and staff.

- Elizabeth Njoroge - Executive Director of Art of Music
PROJECT LEADERSHIP
Elizabeth Njoroge is the project leader and the executive director of the Art of Music Foundation. Elizabeth Njoroge has had long and impactful career in classical music. She was born in Nairobi, Kenya. She studied Biochemistry at McMaster University, Canada and Pharmacy at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. Elisabeth began her vocal studies in Scotland and continued them while studying in the United Kingdom. She has sung with the Royal Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra Choruses, as well as been a member of the Hamilton Opera Chorus. She has performed in Canada, United Kingdom, Kenya and Uganda.
Elizabeth is the editor of Classics Magazine, a classical music magazine published in Kenya as well as host of a daily classical music radio show on one of Kenya's major radio stations. She organises and performs in numerous concerts around East Africa. For the last two years, Elizabeth has run the monthly Classical Evening's Club held at the Nairobi Museum sponsored by Safaricom Foundation. The club is a platform for all classical musicians in Kenya regardless of age and ability.
Elizabeth was the administrative director of the very successful Safaricom Classical Fusion held in April of 2009, the first of its kind that brought together 120 performers and an audience of over 4000 over a weekend.
Elizabeth has also worked as pharmacist in the UK and worked for numerous health projects in Kenya before branching out into music.
