Letter from the Editor

It’s been a long time since we last spoke and perhaps I owe you an explanation. The economic challenges of publishing a quality magazine are enormous and the decision on whether or not to continue publishing Classics is one that has dominated our minds here at Art of Music. Welcome to this latest issue of Classics, the magazine for classical music lovers in Kenya. I’d like to start by saying a big congratulations to the Boys Choir of Kenya whose debut album, Spirit of Africa was successfully launched in London at the end of June.

It’s been a great concert season. Classics Issue 4

Classics Mag juneWhat a success the Safaricom Classical Fusion was! Three days of superb quality classical music, here in Kenya -  and the best part of it all was that most of it was brought to you by our every own musicians.  Well done to all the musicians who worked so hard to make this event an unforgettable one. And thank you to the thousands of you who came to share in the magical experience. For one afternoon, music brought people of all walks of life together and we all sat together as one nation, all our differences forgotten.

Classics Issue 3

Welcome to the April issue of Classics. I'm very excited! Over three days in April, between the 17th and the 19th, Kenyans will get a chance to listen to the very best of classical music from their very own. This all thanks to The Safaricom Classical Music Fusion series of concerts. Alongside with our very own will be the group Voces8 - a talented acapella group from the United Kingdom who's star is rising.

In this issue we take a look at some of the performers who will be taking part in this extraordinary event, and we at Classics hope to see many of you in the audience! Michael Joseph is certainly no stranger and his strong passion and support for arts and culture is well known. In this month's issue he writes about his love for the high drama of Verdi's operas.
